High Testosterone Means High Income

New research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science indicates that people with high testosterone earn higher than average incomes. Wow, that's got to really heart the women's lib gals! But the science is what it is. Males in London were studied buy testing their hormone levels on eight consecutive trading days on the exchange. They were tested at the beginning of the work day and again at  the end. Those who had higher levels of testosterone earned higher incomes.

Male Hypogonadism Equal Low Performance

Male hypogonadism is where men make low levels of the testosterone hormone. Research says that five million men may not produce enough testosterone in the U.S. This is the one factor closely associated with optimism, risk taking and competitiveness. It plays a key role in muscle and physical development during puberty.

The study indicates what many have observed, that high level of confidence was associated with high testosterone levels and those men were able to handle stress associated with risks better than those with low levels of the hormone. Levels of the stress hormone Cortisol were also studied. It was noted that high volatility days produced spikes in the level of this stress related hormone. They concluded that measuring the hormones such as testosterone and Cortisol could predict the traders that would perform best at their positions.

Conclusion: Low total testosterone levels are associated with less healthy sleep in older men. This association is largely explained by adiposity. Clinical trials are necessary to determine whether body weight acts directly or indirectly (via low testosterone) in the causal pathway for sleep-disordered breathing in older men.
